Years of coaching sports other than wrestling:

Coach Calentino has coached football for 17 years; 1 year at Laguna Hills High as the head JV coach, and 16 years here at SCHS.  In those 16 years Coach Cal coached at the JV & Freshman levels compiling 106 wins, which makes him the winningist lower level football coach in school history.  Along the way we also picked up two Junior Varsity league championships.  He retired from the football staff to start a youth wrestling program for San Clemente.

Two years as his son's little league baseball coach.

This year he will be assisting Mike Lewis coaching youth rugby.

Athletic Experience:

In high school Coach Calentino played football all four years.  His senior year he was appointed a captain by the coaching staff, and voted defensive MVP by his fellow teammates. He also was selected as an All-League South Coast League defensive lineman.  He started wrestling his sophmore year for Hall of Fame coach Del Schwartz and was voted varsity team captain for each of his three years competing in high school.  In high school he also participated in track and field.  His freshman he pole vaulted, and his senior year he threw shot put and discus.  In the spring he also competed in power lifting competitions.

In junior college Coach Cal wrestled at Golden West College for Hall of Fame Coach Dale Feffner.  His Freshman year he was given the Coaches Award and his Sophomore year he was selected Team Captain by his team mates.  His sophomore year he was also undefeated in conference Duals.  After his sophomore year he participated in a wrestling cultural exchange trip to Japan with the California Junior College All-Star Team.  He also ran cross country his sophomore year for Coach Raul Duarte.

At San Diego State which didn’t have an officially sanctioned NCAA wrestling program Coach Cal continued to wrestle in the Aztec Wrestling Club participating in both the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Trials.  While at San Diego State University Coach Cal also played Ruby for the nationally ranked Aztec Rugby team for two seasons.
