4 years San Clemente Youth Wrestling. We needed a youth program, so I
started one!
Years of coaching
sports other than wrestling:
Coach Calentino has coached football for 17
years; 1 year at Laguna Hills High as the head JV coach, and 16 years
here at SCHS. In those 16 years Coach Cal coached at the JV & Freshman
levels compiling 106 wins, which makes him the winningist lower level
football coach in school history. Along the way we also picked up two
Junior Varsity league championships. He retired from the football staff
to start a youth wrestling program for San Clemente.
Two years as his son's little league baseball
coach.
This year he will be assisting Mike Lewis
coaching youth rugby.
Athletic Experience:
In high school Coach Calentino played football
all four years. His senior year he was appointed a captain by the
coaching staff, and voted defensive MVP by his fellow teammates. He also
was selected as an All-League South Coast League defensive lineman.
He started wrestling his sophmore year for Hall of Fame coach Del
Schwartz and was voted varsity team captain for each of his three years
competing in high school. In high school he also participated in
track and field. His freshman he pole vaulted, and his senior year
he threw shot put and discus. In the spring he also competed in
power lifting competitions.
In junior college Coach Cal wrestled at Golden
West College for Hall of Fame Coach Dale Feffner. His Freshman year he was given the Coaches Award and his
Sophomore year he was selected Team Captain by his team mates. His
sophomore year he was also undefeated in conference Duals. After his
sophomore year he participated in a wrestling cultural exchange trip to
Japan with the California Junior College All-Star Team. He also ran
cross country his sophomore year for Coach Raul Duarte.
At San Diego State which didnt have an
officially sanctioned NCAA wrestling program Coach Cal continued to
wrestle in the Aztec Wrestling Club participating in both the 1984 and
1988 Olympic Trials. While at San Diego State University Coach Cal also
played Ruby for the nationally ranked Aztec Rugby team for two seasons.
Hobbies and things you
enjoy doing:
Family time and days off! Free days are a rare
commodity these days! I also enjoy ocean fishing,
vacationing, cooking, eating,working with my horse, and trail rides with
my family on horseback.
